Why add this 2021-(W) Silver American Eagle Struck at the West Point Mint to your collection? This 2021 American Silver Eagle is a coin that almost every collector will want in their collection. The coin is not only part of the 35th anniversary issue of the series, but it is also the last brilliant uncirculated issue to include John Mercanti's reverse design, which has been a part of the series since 1986. A new reverse design will take its place mid-year. This 2021 American Silver Eagle was struck at the West Point Mint, but does not physically carry its mint mark.
Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John MercantiObverse: Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design graces the obverse. An American flag draped Liberty strides confidently to the left with branches in her left arm and her right arm extended forward, as though greeting the new day. Her name, "LIBERTY," is joined by the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021," among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman's best known numismatic contributions are the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He was also a sculptor, whose work can still be seen in many American cities. Reverse: For the final time in the series, the reverse bears John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. An eagle holds arrows and an olive branch while protecting a union shield under thirteen stars. Along the rim are inscriptions that provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti's three-plus decades with the US Mint included time as its twelfth Chief Engraver. He designed more medals and coins than anyone else in the history of the institution.
