This historic issue is sure to be prized by collectors for decades to come.
Featuring Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon as an American flag-draped Liberty carries laurel and oak branches in the foreground. Her name, "LIBERTY," is joined by "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021" among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman is most famous for two iconic early 20th century coins, the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He also designed sculptures, some of which continue to be displayed in American cities.
Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States served as the model for John Mercanti's reverse design. Thirteen stars, symbols of the original states, are arranged in a triangular formation above an eagle, which protects a union shield. This design is encircled by rim inscriptions that note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent over three and a half decades with the US Mint, which included time as its twelfth Chief Engrave. His long tenure enabled him to design more coins and medals than anyone else in the institution's history.
