Featuring Iconic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman, which appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947, features on the obverse. Draped in the American flag, Liberty strides confidently carrying branches of laurel and oak against a backdrop of the rising sun. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed on this face, as are the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor whose work continues to be displayed in cities throughout the United States. His two most famous contributions to numismatics are the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: Making its final appearance on the Silver Eagle, John Mercanti's reverse design was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States. Thirteen stars represent the original states at the top of the design, which an eagle protects a union shield below. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim, together encircling Mercanti's design. John Mercanti is the most prolific designer of coins and medals in the history of the US Mint. His nearly four decades with the institution included time as its twelfth Chief Engraver.
