Description

Why order this 2021-W American Type 2 1 oz Silver Eagle Proof?

The American Silver Eagle, one of the world’s most popular bullion coins, and its proof counterpart underwent some changes. 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the two series, and this Type 2 variety of the proof comes with some big differences from the Type 1 version. There is an interruption in the serration of the edge, which serves as a new security feature, and Adolph Weinman’s artist mark appears on the obverse for the first time. The biggest change, though, is that a design by Emily Damstra replaces the one by John Mercanti that has featured on the series since its inception.

Featuring a New Eagle Landing Design by Emily Damstra

Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Wearing a Phrygian cap and draped in the American flag, Liberty carries branches in the early morning sun. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is inscribed along the rim, while the date, “2021,” and national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” are also inscribed on this face. Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor and numismatic artist. Collectors today know him best for his Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Reverse: Emily Damstra’s new reverse design shows an eagle preparing to land carrying an oak branch. The statutory motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is on the right. Rim inscriptions offer the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the face value of the coin, “ONE DOLLAR,” and its metal content, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER.”
