Share in the U.S. Mint’s celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Proof Gold Eagle with this first every Type 2 version of the coin. The Type 2 version made its debut in mid-2021, while Type-1 versions bearing the original Family of Eagle designs were released at the start of the year. This is the first time either design on the coin has changed since the series began. This design transition also means that collectors can own both a Type 1 and a Type 2 from the same year.

Majestic Saint-Gaudens Design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens
Obverse: As is tradition, the double eagle design of Augustus Saint-Gaudens returns to the obverse. Liberty strikes a confident pose as she holds her torch and an olive branch in the early morning sun. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is inscribed above her head, and the date, “2021,” is noted to the right. Modifications were made to design elements like the Capitol Building, the sun’s ray, and others, as the United States Mint returned to its historical assets resulting in a design whose details and vision more closely match Saint-Gaudens’ original design.
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle head design by Jennie Norris replaces Miley Busiek’s eagle family design. Both statutory inscriptions, ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” are inscribed above the image. Along the rim are inscriptions that note the name of the issuing country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the coin’s face value, ’10 DOLLARS,” and its metal content, “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD.”

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this coin Proof 70 (PF70) and certified it Ultra Cameo (UC) and First Day of Issue (FDI). The PF70 grade means that the coin looks flawless under 5x magnification.
