Why purchase this flawless First Day of Issue 2021-W American Gold Eagle Type-2 Proof coin from the West Point Mint?

The U.S Mint has introduced an exciting new design to its American Gold Eagle series in 2021! This represents the first major design change to the series since its launch thirty-five years ago in 1986. The time-honored rendition of Lady Liberty remains in place (with a few upgrades to the design details), while the family of eagles graphic (Type-1) has been replaced with a bold eagle portrait (Type-2).

  • This is a first year of issue West Point Mint Proof release of the Type-2 2021-W American Gold Eagle coin!
  • The coin is struck from 1/2 Troy oz. of .9167 fine gold (22 karat).
  • The $25 face value coin measures 27 mm in diameter.
  • The coin received the First Day of Issue attribution.
  • The expertly minted coin features a hand-signed certification label.
  • The coin is part of a 12,250 piece limited mintage.

Beautifully Symbolic Type-2 Gold Eagle Design

Obverse: Lady Liberty is personified as a young woman advancing forward on the obverse encircled by fifty stars, with U.S. Capitol Building and stylized sun rays in her wake. In her outstretched arms she holds an olive branch of peace and a flaming torch to represent enlightenment and wisdom. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021," the Mint mark "W" and the artist's monogram "ASG." This allegorical figure of Liberty created by acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens was initially minted on the $20 Gold Double Eagle series from 1907 until the federal gold recall in 1933. The Type-2 design has been slightly modified from its 1986 design, featuring the restoration of elements from the original bronze cast to the Capitol Building, stars, torch and sun rays.

Reverse: A bald eagle, a symbol for freedom and strength, is depicted on the reverse, accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "25 DOLLARS" and "1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD." The Type-2 Eagle Portrait image is credited to Arizona based artist Jennie Norris. The gorgeously detailed wildlife design represents Ms. Norris' first numismatic work as a member of the U.S. Mint's Artistic Infusion Program.

Proof 70 Ultra Cameo Perfection

This Type-2 2021-W American Gold Eagle 1/2 oz. proof coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review and qualified for the First Day of Issue designation. Featuring an exceptionally sharp strike, flawless surfaces and remarkable visual contrast between its frosted and mirrored finishes, the coin was awarded the NGC's most prestigious grade of Proof 70 Ultra Cameo (UC). The $25 gold coin is elegantly presented in a sonically sealed NGC black core protective holder, accompanied by a certification label signed by John Mercanti, the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 2006-2010.

This pristine First Day of Issue 2021-W Gold American Eagle 1/2 oz. proof coin featuring the introduction of the Type-2 reverse design will look fantastic in your collection!
