Why does this flawless First Releases 2021-(S) American Silver Eagle bullion coin belong in your collection?
2021 promises to be a monumental year for the American Silver Eagle, marking not only the 35th anniversary of the series, but the year the original heraldic eagle reverse design will transition to a new design in mid-2021. To keep up with collector demand and to off-set pandemic-related production slow-downs, the United States Mint turned to the San Francisco Mint to help produce bullion Silver Eagles which are typically struck at the West Point Mint. With the Mint poised to introduce a new reverse design for the series later in 2021, these coins also noteworthy as some of the final few bullion Silver Eagles to feature the "Type I" heraldic eagle image, created for the 1986 series introduction by currently retired 12th Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
Iconic Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Liberty is personified as a young woman on the obverse, confidently walking toward the rising sun draped in the folds of the American flag, while carrying long branches of oak and laurel. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This patriotic image first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by accomplished medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
Reverse: Centered on the reverse is a magnificently detailed heraldic eagle with thirteen stars above. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
