Why purchase this First Day of Issue 2021-(S) bullion release of the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series?

The American Silver Eagle has been a popular annually issued product of the U.S. Mint since 1986. To keep up with customer demand and to combat pandemic-related production slow-downs, the Mint granted authorization to its San Francisco branch to produce Silver Eagle bullion coins, which are traditionally struck at the West Point Mint. 2021 is also a milestone year for the series, with the pending introduction of a newly designed reverse in mid-2021. Early-year Silver Eagle releases will be the final bullion coins to be minted with the original heraldic eagle image crafted by John Mercanti, the Mint's 12th Chief Engraver.

  • This 2021-(S) American Silver Eagle coin features the original heraldic eagle reverse.
  • The coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint, but does not bear a mint mark.
  • 1,000,000 of these coins were struck during this production run.
  • The bullion coin contains 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
  • This coin was given the Type-1 pedigree to note that it bears the original Mercanti Heraldic Eagle reverse design.
  • The silver dollar received the prestigious First Day of Issue designation.

Patriotic Silver Eagle Design

Obverse: The obverse features an iconic portrait of Lady Liberty, portrayed as a young woman enveloped in an American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." The image is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar obverse, credited to Adolph A. Weinman, acclaimed architectural and medallic sculptor of the early 1900s.

Reverse: The reverse illustrates a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
