Why purchase this First Day of Issue 2021-(S) American Silver Eagle Type I bullion coin?
To combat pandemic related production delays while still meeting customer demand for precious metals during the continuing global battle against COVID-19, the U.S. Mint has authorized a production run of American Silver Eagle bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint to supplement production at the West Point Mint, which typically strikes these coins. The bullion coins in early 2021 will feature the original "Type I" heraldic eagle reverse, crafted by 12th Chief Engraver John Mercanti, which has graced the series since its inception in 1986. The Mint plans to retire the iconic heraldic eagle sometime in 2021.
Beautiful Imagery Representing Liberty and Freedom
Obverse: The obverse portrays Lady Liberty as she strides toward the rising sun dramatically enveloped in the United States flag. This rendition of Liberty originated on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar designed by renowned medallic and architectural sculptor Adolph A. Weinman. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Reverse: The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and cluster of arrows. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
