Why does this 2021 Silver Peace Dollar deserve a place in your collection?
The U.S. Mint introduced the Silver Peace Dollar series in 1921. In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of its inaugural release, the Mint has issued a 2021 dated Peace Dollar. The coin features the identical imagery of the original Peace Dollar, which was a tribute to the restoration of peace after the chaos and devastation of the First World War. The coin's compelling patriotic design, created by award-winning Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, also served as a symbol for the nation's emergence as an international power.
Breathtaking Peace Dollar Design
Obverse: The concept of Liberty is personified as a young woman facing left on the obverse, with her hair gathered at the back of her head, while loosened strands flow gently from her face beneath a spectacular radiate style tiara. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." De Francisci based this image of Ms. Liberty upon the likeness of his wife Teresa.
Reverse: A bald eagle is illustrated on the reverse grasping an olive branch, standing upon a rock adorned with the declaration "PEACE." The eagle is surrounded by the rays of the rising sun and the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "ONE DOLLAR."
