Why purchase this First Releases 2021-(P) bullion release of the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series?
For the second year in a row, the U.S. Mint has authorized a production run of American Silver Eagle bullion coins at the Philadelphia Mint. The authorization is a result of trying to keep up with customer demand in the face of continued pandemic related production delays. With plans for a design change to the series later in the year, this 2021 dated release is especially noteworthy, since the coins will be some of the final examples of the long running series to be minted with the original Type I (T-1) heraldic eagle reverse design created by the currently retired 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti.
Breathtaking Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: An allegorical figure of Liberty is located on the obverse, portrayed as a young woman walking towards the rising sun, while enveloped in an American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." This image made its first appearance on American coinage in 1916 as the obverse of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, a timeless design which is credited to acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its grasp. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
