Why order this Type I Struck at the Philadelphia Mint - Emergency Production 2021-(P) American Silver Eagle?

To keep up with demand for Silver Eagles in the face of production delays caused by the covid-19 pandemic the United States Mint authorized the striking of 495,000 2021-dated bullion Silver Eagles at the Philadelphia Mint in what Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) defined as an "Emergency Production." This piece comes from that historic run. The coin is also part of the 35th anniversary release of the world's favorite bullion coin and one of the final issues to bear its original heraldic eagle reverse design before a new reverse design debuts in mid-2021.

  • This coin is $1 legal tender in the United States.
  • This coin was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
  • This piece is among 495,000 that were struck as part of an authorized production run at the Philadelphia Mint.
  • This issue marks the 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagle Series.
  • This release marks one of the final times that the original heraldic eagle reverse design will appear on the series.
  • This coin was graded Mint State 69 by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
  • This coin was also certified First Releases by NGC.
  • Grading information comes on an exclusive Heraldic Eagle label.
  • The coin has been set in a black core holder.

Patriotic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman

Obverse: The obverse bears one of the most famous designs in the history of American numismatics, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. Liberty is depicted carrying branches of laurel and oak while greeting the new day with her extend right hand. Her name, "LIBERTY," is joined by the date, "2021," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," among the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman designed the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar, two of the most important coins of the 20th century. In addition to these and other numismatic efforts, he also sculpted several pieces, some of which can still be seen prominently displayed in cities across America.

Reverse: The Heraldic Eagle design on the reverse was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. An eagle holds arrows and an olive branch while protecting a union shield under thirteen stars. This design is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is the most prolific numismatic designer in American history. He spent over three and a half decades with the U.S. Mint, part of which time he spent as its Chief Engraver.

Virtually Flawless MS69 FR with Black Core Holder and Exclusive Heraldic Eagle Label

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) set this coin in a black core holder and provided its grading information on an exclusive Heraldic Eagle label. The grading company awarded this piece its highest grade, Mint State 69, which indicates that it appears perfect to the naked eye. NGC also indicated that the coin was submitted for grading within a month of its initial release from the mint by certifying it First Releases.
