Powerful Moton Field Design by Phebe Hemphill

Obverse: Like other coins in this series, this one bears John Flanagan's 1932 portrait of President George Washington on the obverse. "LIBERTY" and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed to the left and right of the President, respectively. Inscriptions on the rim note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."

Reverse: Phebe Hemphill created the reverse design and Chris Costello sculpted it. A pilot looks skyward while suiting up in the foreground as Moton Field's control tower stands in the background. Two P-51 Mustangs maneuver overhead. At the top of the design is the inscription "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS." The image is encircled by a rim frame in which there are four inscriptions, including "TUSKEGEE AIRMEN" and "ALABAMA."
