Stunningly Detailed Design Honoring the Tuskegee Airmen
Obverse: John Flanagan's familiar sculpted image of George Washington is centered on the obverse. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," Philadelphia's "P" Mint mark and "QUARTER DOLLAR" are inscribed. Mr. Flanagan was a prolific American medallic artist of the early 20th century.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a pilot proudly looking towards the sky, as two P-51 Mustang aircraft pass overhead. The Moton Field control tower is illustrated in the background, with the inscription "THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS" curving above, in acknowledgment of the airmen's fight against fascism overseas and with discrimination at home. Inscribed "TUSKEGEE AIRMEN," "ALABAMA," "2021" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
