Powerful Britannia Design by Philip Nathan
Obverse: The coin's obverse features a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The monarch wears her Royal Diamond Diadem and earrings. Her name and an abbreviation of her Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D," are inscribed along the rim, combining with the face value of the coin, "2 POUNDS," to encircle the portrait.
Reverse: Philip Nathan's Britannia on the waves design features on the reverse, as it frequently has throughout the history of the series. Britannia stands tall on the waves, holding her trident in one hand and balancing a shield that bears the Union Jack with the other. This year, The Royal Mint added tincture lines to the shield, part of the new security features, which also serves to highlight its design. Inscriptions in a rim frame note the name of the coin, "BRITANNIA," its date, "2021," and its weight and purity, "1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER."
Additional security features on this face include a wave-patterned background that almost comes to life when you move it, and a security mark that appears inside a circle, that reveals a design when tilted. Finally, a laser-etched micro text inscription repeats inside the main border, reading "DECUS ET TUTAMEN," which is Latin for "an ornament and safeguard."
