Why purchase this 2021 1 oz Silver £2 Great Britain Queen's Beasts - Griffin of Edward III Proof?
The British Royal Mint began the Queen's Beasts Series in 2016. The series has featured each of the ten creatures that were present in stone form at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The series has proved extremely popular among collectors, who have had the chance to enjoy an array of themed designs and complete a series over a relatively short period of time. This Griffin of Edward III is the final proof issue in the series.
Powerful Griffin of Edward III Design by Jody Clark
Obverse: The coin's obverse bears a right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Clark shows the monarch wearing earrings and her Royal Diamond Diadem. Her name and an abbreviation of her Latin title, "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D," join the coin's face value, "2 POUNDS," on the rim to encircle her effigy.
Reverse: Clark's reverse design features the Griffin of Edward III. Part lion and part eagle, the beast rests its hand on the House of Windsor shield, which bears an image of a tower with a flag. Rim inscriptions note the coin's date, "2021," and the name of the featured creature, "GRIFFIN OF EDWARD III."
