Beautiful Incuse Panda Design

Obverse: The obverse of the medal has a representation of the Great Wall of China meandering into the distance. Overhead is a model of the Chinese armillary sphere. In the foreground near the bottom appears the seldom seen "Z" mint mark from the Shenzhen Guobao branch of the China Mint.

Reverse: The reverse of the medal features an elegant moon backdrop. Beneath the moon appears a young Giant Panda surrounded by leaves. Thanks to the combination of high relief surfaces and super incuse strike, the design consists of several "layers" of relief that allows the immensity of the moon to shine through.

High Relief Super Incuse Gem Proof

A Gem Proof medal would typically grade at the solid Proof 65 level, if submitted for numerical grading on the Sheldon Scale. This issue is also the first super incuse Panda-themed design from the Chinese Mint. Incused items have the design devices of the medal struck below the coin's fields.
