In 2021 stunning new additions to the Royal Canadian Mint’s Gold Maple Leaf Brilliant Uncirculated bullion coin series will be issued to collectors worldwide.
The Mint annual releases Gold Maple Leaf coins in a range of sizes and denominations, including 1 oz. $50 coins, ½ oz. $20 coins, ¼ oz. $10 coins, and 1/10th oz. $5 gold coins. Each coin is struck from .9999 fine gold and features a brilliant uncirculated finish.
The reverse of the series showcases the iconic Canadian Maple Leaf design from the RCM engravers. The Maple Leaf has been an enduring symbol of peace and tolerance to both Canadians and the rest of the world since 1964.
The obverse design on the series features the “Canadian portrait” of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as executed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt.
In 1979, the only government-backed bullion coins were the then recently debuted Gold Maple Leaf from Canada and the globally dominant Gold Krugerrand from South Africa. Before introducing the Gold Maple Leaf coin series, restrike coins like the French 20 Franc Rooster, various Austrian Ducats, and circulating gold coins like the British Sovereign, were the only convenient issues for U.S. collectors to own gold privately other than the Krugerrand.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf series has fantastic depth and breadth of offerings. The coins are struck in both collectible proof and the standard bullion version. The series boasts some of the purest golds struck in the world today, ranging from .9999 or .99999 fine gold.
The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) enjoys a world-leading reputation in the bullion and numismatic coin space. The artisans who work for the RCM create some of the most cutting-edge coins designs and security features available today. The RCM strikes all of Canada's circulating coinage and serves as a contract mint for smaller countries.
