2021 Australia Silver Koala Brilliant Uncirculated Coins

Australia’s Perth Mint released the 2021 edition of their exciting Silver Koala Series in early 2021. The series honors Australia’s favorite tree-dwelling marsupial. The series is one of the most popular annual Perth wildlife issues and has been since 2007, when it was introduced.

One of the most appealing features of the Perth Mint Koala series is the annually changing design on the reverse. The 2021 design will appear for one year only and features the less-than-cuddly marsupial curled up in the branches of a eucalyptus tree. The reverse will bear the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark, the date, as well as the coin's weight and purity.

Queen Elizabeth II Obverse

The effigy used on the obverse was designed by the British Royal Mint Engraver Jody Clark. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II is portrayed facing to the right.

The Australian Koala has been a favorite annual silver series for enthusiasts, collectors, and stackers since inception. The Australian Koala Series coins have been historically available in a variety of sizes, including but not limited to 1 kilo, 5 oz. and 1 oz. They are struck in the dramatic High Relief format in standard BU bullion and Proof finishes. The series is struck in Silver and Gold currently and even has a limited number of years of Platinum issuance. The final noteworthy item is that all Perth Mint Koalas have limited or lower mintages.

Perth Mint Background

The Perth Mint enjoys a worldwide reputation as an innovator and leading artisan in the Numismatic and collectible bullion marketplace. The organization began as part of the British Royal Mint system on June 20, 1899 as a response to the five major Western Australian gold rushes from 1885-1893 and the resultant rising gold production in the area. At that time, they primarily struck the famous British Gold Sovereign and Gold Half Sovereign coins with locally sourced gold until 1931. During that time, the organization operated as an assay office and produced gold bars. They have produced some coinage used in Australian commerce. In 1987 the current organization started to produce collectible coinage and bullion products.
