Why purchase this pristine 2021 Australian Shipwreck: Zeewijk 1 oz. gold triangular-shaped bullion coin?
The Royal Australian Mint's triangular-shaped Shipwreck series concludes with this fourth release, dedicated to the Zeewijk wreck of 1727. The surviving crew members remarkably built a new vessel, the Sloepie, from salvaged materials, and were able to complete their journey to Batavia with a cargo of ten chests of Dutch guilders in April 1728.
Stunning Graphic Story of a Shipwreck
Obverse: On the obverse, three stages of the Zeewijk crew's journey are represented. The wrecked Zeewijk appears in the distance, while members of the crew are portrayed constructing the Sloepie beside an image of the newly-built ship departing. The portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark of the Royal Mint in 2015 is located prominently above. Inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II," "AUSTRALIA 2021" and "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS."
Reverse: The reverse depicts the Zeewijk sailing on a serene sea. Rotation of the coin reveals the magnificent vessel overturned, below the inscriptions "1oz .9999 Au" "ZEEWIJK" and "1727."
