Featuring John Mercanti's Great Seal Design for the Last Time
Obverse: The coin's obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Liberty strides confidently draped in the American flag carrying laurel and oak branches as the morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon. Inscriptions on the obverse include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman contributed two of the most important coins to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. He also sculpted numerous works, some of which are on display in cities across the United States.
Reverse: Thirteen stars shine above an eagle, which protects a union shield on the reverse. The image was adapted from the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Inscriptions along the rim provide essential information about the coin, including its country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is among the most important figures in the history of the US Mint. He was its twelfth Chief Engraver, a post he held for part of his nearly four decades with the mint. He has designed more coins and medals than anyone else in its history.
