Why purchase this 2021 bullion release of the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle?
2021 will be a year of change for the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series. The Mint has announced that sometime in 2021, the bullion series' iconic Heraldic Eagle reverse will be discontinued and replaced with an eagle in flight design, after more than three decades of fairly consistent imagery.
Beautifully Rendered Designs
Obverse: The obverse features Lady Liberty strolling toward the rising sun dramatically enveloped in the flag of the United States. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This allegorical image first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin designed by Adolph A. Weinman, an award-winning early 20th century sculptor.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch is centered on the reverse. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The patriotic design is credited to John Mercanti, the currently retired 12th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
