Why order this 2021 American MS70 Silver Eagle?

The United States Mint will change the iconic heraldic eagle reverse design that has appeared on the American Silver Eagle series since its inception in 1986 for the first time in mid-2021. That makes this the final bullion issue to feature the original reverse design created by the numismatic legend John Mercanti. This historic bullion issue will be prized by collectors for decades.

  • This coin was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
  • This coin is $1 U.S. legal tender.
  • Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman feature on this coin.
  • This is the last issue of the bullion coin to bear Mercanti's original heraldic eagle reverse design.
  • PCGS graded this coin Mint State 70.
  • PCGS designated this piece First Strikes.
  • Grading information comes on an American flag label.
  • The coin is set in a black frame.

Featuring Adolph Weinman's Treasured Walking Liberty Design

Obverse: The obverse design is among the most famous in American history, Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and is draped in an American flag as she carries laurel and oak branches as the morning sun rises to the left. Obverse inscriptions note her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman designed the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar, two of the most important pieces in America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. He was also a prominent sculptor, whose work continues to be displayed in many American cities.

Reverse: The reverse design was modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States by Adolph Weinman. Thirteen five-pointed stars are arranged above an eagle, which guards a union shield while clutching arrows and an olive branch. Rim inscriptions provide essential information about the coin, reading, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti designed more coins and medals than anyone else in the history of the US Mint. His tenure with the institution included time as its twelfth Chief Engraver.
