Why does this 2021 American Silver Eagle belong in your collection?
Introduced in 1986, the U.S Mint has issued the American Silver Eagle series for thirty-five consecutive years with consistent imagery. That will change mid-year in 2021, when the classic Heraldic Eagle reverse design will be replaced with a new design later. This issue feature the original reverse design.
Powerful Patriotic Designs
Obverse: The obverse features Lady Liberty enveloped in an American flag, striding with confidence towards the rising sun, while cradling a bouquet of oak and laurel branches. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "2021" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The design is borrowed from the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar crafted by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, whose medallic credits include the 1916 Mercury Dime.
Reverse: The reverse design illustrates a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, with thirteen stars above. Inspired by the Great Seal of the U.S., the design is an example of the artistic skill of 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
