Why order this MS70 2021 Silver American Eagle?
Collectors have eagerly been awaiting for a new reverse design to appear on American Silver Eagles ever since the United States Mint announced plans to redesign Mercanti's original Heraldic Eagle reverse design back in 2019. 2021 will feature two different bullion Silver Eagle designs. Those issued early in 2021 will feature the original reverse design, while at some point in 2021, the bullion series will transition to Emily Damstra's new Flying Eagle reverse design. That means that this early 2021 issue is historic, as it will be the final bullion Silver Eagle issue to bear John Mercanti's iconic reverse image.
Patriotic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: This coin's obverse design first appeared on Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar before returning for the Silver Eagle. Against a backdrop of the morning sun, Liberty carries important symbols of civilian honors, laurel branches, and military honors, oak branches. Her name, "LIBERTY," arches over the image, while the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021," are also included on this face. Adolph Weinman sculpted numerous works that can be seen in American cities to this day. His most famous numismatic contributions are the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: John Mercanti used the Great Seal of the United States as the model for his reverse design. An eagle protects a union shield under an arrangement of thirteen stars. Inscriptions on the rim provide essential information about the coin, including its country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is the most prolific designer of coins and medals in American history. He spent nearly four decades with the US Mint, including service as its Chief Engraver.
