Why order this Silver MS70 2021 American Eagle?
The United States Mint is planning to change the reverse design of the bullion Silver Eagle for the first time in the history of the series later in 2021. This upcoming change means that this early 2021 issue will include the final bullion Silver Eagles to be struck with the original heraldic eagle reverse design.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Patriotic Walking Liberty Design
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Liberty, who is draped in the American flag, carries branches in her left arm while extending her right hand above the morning sun. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins the date, "2021," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," as the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman contributed the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar to America's numismatic renaissance of the early 20th century. He also created many sculptures, some of which are displayed prominently in cities across America.
Reverse: 13 stars represent the original stages above an eagle, which guards a union shield, on John Mercanti's reverse. Mercanti modeled the image after the Great Seal of the United States. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its weight,, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR," encircle the image along the rim. John Mercanti was the twelfth person to serve as the US Mint's Chief Engraver. During his three-plus decades with the mint, he contributed more designs to coins and medals than anyone else in the institution's history.
