Why order this 2021 MS70 Silver American Eagle?
This 2021-dated bullion American Silver Eagle is one of the last to feature the original heraldic eagle reverse design, created by numismatic legend John Mercanti, which has appeared on the series since its debut in 1986. In mid-2021, the United States Mint will start issuing bullion Silver Eagles with a new reverse design created by Emily Damstra. Early 2021-bullion issues will feature the original heraldic eagle designs, allowing collectors to appreciate Mercanti's iconic reverse design again before it changes later in the year.
Striking Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: Liberty strides confidently in the morning sun as she carries laurel and oak branches, which represent civilian and military honors. The design was created by Adolph Weinman for the Walking Liberty half dollar. Obverse inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2021." Adolph Weinman was one of the most significant contributors to the early 20th century numismatic renaissance in the United States. His best known works were the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime.
Reverse: On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. An eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other while protecting a union shield under 13 stars. The image is encircled by three rim inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent more than three and a half decades with the US Mint. He spent part of that time as its 12th Chief Engraver. Over the course of his career, he designed more medals and coins than any other figure in the mint's history.
