Why purchase this 2021 MS69 American Silver Eagle?
It seems an understatement to describe John Mercanti as a giant of American numismatics. Among his many contributions is the original heraldic eagle reverse design that has appeared on the American Silver Eagle series since its debut in 1986. That will change in mid-2021 when the United States Mint will start issuing bullion Silver Eagles with a brand new reverse design. Early 2021 bullion issues will continue to feature the original reverse design until the transition happens later in the year. Don't miss your change to own a 2021-dated bullion issue featuring the original heraldic eagle reverse design.
Featuring for the Final Time John Mercanti's Great Seal Design
Obverse: On the obverse is Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty design, which first appeared on the half dollar in 1916. Liberty appears the picture of patriotism draped in the American flag and she carries laurel and oak branches as the sun rises to the left. Her name, "LIBERTY," joins "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021" as the obverse inscriptions. Adolph Weinman was an important contributor to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His best known contributions were the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. He also created numerous sculptures that can be seen in many American cities.
Reverse: The reverse bears an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States. Designed by John Mercanti, it consists of thirteen stars and an eagle protecting a union shield. Rim inscriptions note the name of the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti designed more medals and coins than anyone else in American history. His nearly four decade tenure with the US Mint included time as its twelfth Chief Engraver.
