Why add this 2021 American Silver Eagle bullion coin to your collection of American coinage treasures?
For thirty-five years, the American Silver Eagle has been a staple of the U.S. Mint. For the thirty-sixth year of issue in 2021, the Mint has announced that the original Heraldic Eagle design on the reverse will be replaced, while the historic allegorical Liberty obverse image will remain. With the transition to the new design scheduled to occur later in the year, collectors will have the opportunity to acquire one of the last bullion coins struck with the original Heraldic Eagle reverse.
Iconic Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse features the timeless image of Lady Liberty designed by Adolph A. Weinman more than a century ago for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." Mr. Weinman's additional medallic credits include the 1916 Mercury Dime and the 1907 American Institute of Architects Medal.
Reverse: The reverse illustrates a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." Retired U.S. Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti is credited with the patriotic design.
