Striking Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: Liberty carries branches of laurel, which represent civilian honors, and oak, which represent military honors, as the morning sun rises from beyond the horizon. The image comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Inscriptions on this face include the featured figure's name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2021." Adolph Weinman designed two of the most recognizable coins of America's early 20th century renaissance, the Walking Liberty half dollar and the Mercury dime. Weinman was also a sculptor, whose work continues to be displayed prominently in several American cities.
Reverse: On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States that was designed by John Mercanti. Thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular formation above a union shield, which is protected by an eagle. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim. John Mercanti spent over three and a half decades with the United States Mint. For part of that time, he was its Chief Engraver. During his tenure with the institution, he created designs for more coins and medals than anyone else in its history.
