Historic American Bison Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: The obverse features James Earle Fraser's composite portrait of a Native American man. His distinctive facial features, long, braided hair, and feathers tied up at the back of his head show his heritage. "LIBERTY" is inscribed along the rim in front of his face, while the date, "2021," and an "F," for "Fraser," are inscribed on his shoulder.
Reverse: An American bison serves as Fraser's reverse design. The massive creature is depicted in left-side profile with the two statutory mottoes, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," inscribed under its head and above its back, respectively. The coin's face value, "$50," is noted just below the animal. Rim inscriptions at the top and bottom of this face read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD," respectively.
Flawless MS70 FDI with Black Core Holder and Mercanti Signed Label
Former United States Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti hand signed the label on which Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided its grading information. That information includes the company's highest grade, Mint State 70. To earn that grade, a coin must appear perfect under 5x magnification. NGC also certified this piece First Day of Issue (FDI), something that it only does for coins that were submitted for grading through an exclusive process. The coin comes set in a sleek black core holder.
