The Gold Buffalo was first struck in 2006 to give collectors who prefer purer coins than the American Gold Eagle an option from the United States Mint. Today, the series continues to be a popular choice thanks to its U.S. government backing for weight and purity and its iconic designs.
Classic Buffalo Nickel Designs by James Earle FraserBoth faces of this coin bear designs by James Earle Fraser. Obverse: The obverse features a right-side, composite portrait of a Native American man. He has long, braided hair that falls over his shoulder and feathers tied up at the back of his head. "LIBERTY" is inscribed along the rim, while the date, "2021," and the designer's last initial, "F," are included on his shoulder. Reverse: On the reverse is an American bison, which is shown in left-side profile. The two statutory mottoes, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are inscribed below the creature's head and above its back, respectively. The coin's face value, "$50," is inscribed near the bottom, while its country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and weight and purity, "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD," are inscribed along the rim. Perfect MS70 FDI with Flag LabelThis coin earned a Mint State 70 grade from Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). That grade means that the coin appears perfect as seen under 5x magnification.
