Why purchase this 2021 American Gold Eagle 1 oz. bullion coin from the Last Day of Production Final Type-1 Box?
The American Gold Eagle series has been an annual product of the U.S. Mint since 1986. For the first thirty-five years, the series was issued with consistent imagery. That changed mid-year in 2021, when the Mint retired the iconic Type-1 family of eagles scene on the reverse. This 2021 dated Gold Eagle bullion coin is certified as one of those minted on the Last Day of Production of the Type-1 style, and issued in the final 500-coin monster box number 510913. During the course of the series, over 40,000 monster boxes of 1 oz. Gold Eagle coins were released.
Classic Design of the Type-1 Gold Eagle
Obverse: Lady Liberty is illustrated on the obverse, centered within a frame of fifty stars. The young woman confidently strides forward with a torch of enlightenment and an olive branch of peace in her grasp, while the sun rises in the background over the dome of the U.S. Capitol building. Inscribed "LIBERTY" and "2021." This powerful rendition of Liberty initially appeared on the Gold Double Eagle in 1907. The design is the result of a collaboration between President Theodore Roosevelt and acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a nesting family of eagles, with a magnificently rendered eagle clutching an olive branch in flight above. The enchanting Type-1 design is the work of artist Miley Busiek, a well-respected, award-winning American sculptor with works on display at locations such as the Smithsonian American History Museum and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
