Why purchase this 2021 Type 2 1 oz Gold American Eagle?
Share in the United States Mint's celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Gold Eagle with one of the debut issues for the Type-2 design. The Type 2 version replaced the Type 1 version in mid-2021, meaning that collectors can get both types of the coin with the 2021 date. The Type-2 version has a new reverse design and the 1 ounce option features an enhanced security feature, an interrupted serrated edge that makes counterfeiting extremely difficult.
Powerful Eagle Design by Jennie Norris
Obverse: The iconic Saint-Gaudens design, which is named for its creator, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features on the obverse. Liberty stands against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun as she holds her torch, a symbol of freedom, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top of this face, and the date, "2021," is noted in the lower right. The Type-2 release notably features some modifications to design elements like the Capitol Building, sun's rays and more, as the Mint returned to their original historical assets to render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens' original design and detail.
Reverse: The reverse features a left-side profile of a bald eagle. The closeup image shows the details of the bird's face. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed just above its head, while rim inscriptions note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS," and its metal content, "1 OZ. FINE GOLD."
