Why purchase this pristine First Day of Issue 2021 American Gold Eagle Type-2 bullion coin?
In 2021, the U.S. Mint's American Gold Eagle series has been issued with a new design for the first time since the series introduction thirty-five years ago in 1986. The design modification mostly effects the reverse, where the iconic eagle family scene (Type-1) has been replaced with a portrait style rendition of an eagle (Type-2). The personification of Liberty that has graced the series since its inception will remain on the Type-2 releases, with a few historic enhancements to the design.

Powerful Patriotic Type-2 Gold Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed confidently stepping forward on the obverse encircled by fifty stars, with the sun's rays and the U.S. Capitol Building's distinctive dome behind her. In her outstretched arms she holds a flaming torch and an olive branch, representing wisdom and peace. "LIBERTY" curves overhead with "2021" located at lower right, near the "ASG" monogram, which credits acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens with the timeless design. This allegorical figure of Liberty was minted on $20 Gold Double Eagle series from 1907 until the federal gold recall in 1933. For the Type-2 design, specific details on the Capitol Building, stars, torch and sun rays have been modified to more accurately replicate the elements of the original bronze cast.
Reverse: The magnificently detailed head of a bald eagle is centered on the reverse, accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "50 DOLLARS" and "1 OZ. FINE GOLD." The Type-2 Eagle Portrait is the first numismatic work to be created by artist Jennie Norris, an Arizona based member of the U.S. Mint's Artistic Infusion Program. Ms. Norris is an experienced graphic designer, whose clients include Hershey, Crayola and Sea World.
