Why order this 1/4 oz Gold 2021 Type 2 American Eagle?
The U.S. Mint introduces its Type 2 American Gold Eagle to mark the coin's 35th anniversary. The Type 2 version replaced the Type 1 in mid-2021 rather than at the beginning of the year when the original Family of Eagles reverse design was still being issued, giving collectors the opportunity to own two 2021 American Gold Eagles with different reverse designs.
Stunning Bald Eagle Design by Jennie Norris
Obverse: The coin's traditional obverse design, the iconic Saint-Gaudens, remains with some slight modifications. Liberty stands at the center facing the holder with her torch, a symbol of freedom, in one hand and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in the other. Obverse inscriptions include her name, "LIBERTY," and the date, "2021." For the 2021 Type-2 release the United States Mint restored legacy details to the obverse design including modifications to the Capitol Building, stars, torch, and sun rays among other design elements, resulting in a closer reflection to Saint-Gauden's original vision.
Reverse: Jennie Norris's design replaces Miley Busiek's on the reverse. Norris's design shows an up close look at the face of a bald eagle. The statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed above. Along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's face value, "10 DOLLARS," and the coin's metal content, "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD."
