Why purchase this 1/10 oz Gold 2021 Type 2 American Eagle?
Fans of the American Gold Eagle will not want to miss out on one of the most exciting releases in the history of the series. To mark the coin's 35th anniversary, the U.S. Mint introduces this new Type 2 version of the coin. The change, which was made in mid-2021, offers a new reverse design by Jennie Norris that replaces the original Family of Eagles reverse design of Miley Busiek. Because early 2021 issues featured the original reverse design before the Type-2 design debuted in mid-2021, collectors have the unique opportunity to own two types of this coin with the same date.
Patriotic Eagle Design by Jennie Norris
Obverse: The iconic Saint-Gaudens design, which is named for its designer, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, graces the obverse. Liberty stands against a backdrop of the rays of the morning sun facing the holder with her torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed at the top, and the date, "2021," is noted in the lower right. The obverse has been updated to include legacy details based on the original bronze cast to render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens' original vision.
Reverse: On the reverse is a closeup look at an eagle. The design by Jennie Norris shows the national symbol in fine detail. Above its head are the statutory mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Rim inscriptions have been rearranged but provide the same information, reading, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "5 DOLLARS," and "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD."
Flawless MS70 with Brown Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Mint State 70, which means that it appears perfect even under 5x magnification. That grade comes on a brown label.
