Why purchase this 2021 American Gold Eagle bullion coin?
The American Gold Eagle series was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1986. After thirty-six years of release with unchanged imagery, the Mint is expected to retire the eagle family design on the series' reverse sometime in 2021.
Classic Gold Eagle Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is illustrated on the obverse surrounded by fifty stars, with the rising sun in the background, as she gracefully strides forward with a torch and olive branch in her grasp. Inscribed "LIBERTY" and "2021." This rendition of Liberty first appeared on the 1907 $20 Gold Double Eagle, which was collaboratively designed by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens and President Theodore Roosevelt.
Reverse: Featured on the reverse is a nesting eagle family with a magnificent eagle clutching an olive branch in flight above, created by artist Miley Busiek. Ms. Busiek is a prolific American sculptor with works on display at multiple universities, libraries and museums across the country.
