The design, which was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, originally appeared on the Double Eagle. "LIBERTY" and "2021" are inscribed on this face.

Reverse: The reverse design was created specifically for the American Gold Eagle Series by Miley Busiek. A male eagle carries an olive branch back to its family, which waits in the nest below.
