Iconic Obverse and Reverse Designs

Reverse: Created by Miley Busiek, a private-sector sculptor, the reverse features what is known as the Family of Eagles design, which shows a male Eagle in flight, returning to his nest mate and hatchings, with an olive branch between its beaks. Inscriptions on this face include the denomination, " 5 dollars," the weight and purity, "1/10 oz. FINE GOLD," the issuing nation, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the phrases, " E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST."

Obverse: The obverse features an iconic image of Lady Liberty confidently walking forward with a torch in one hand, an olive branch in the other, while she is framed by the sun's ray's from behind. This design was refreshed and taken from the 1907 $20 Double Eagle created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, a prolific coin designer. Inscriptions on this face include the word "LIBERTY" and the date, "2021."
