The Show May Be Canceled…But This Tradition Carries On!
Since 1891, the American Numismatic Association (ANA) has held one of the largest annual numismatic shows in the world—the World’s Fair of Money. Unfortunately, the global COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the 2020 show, originally set for August 4–8 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, being canceled.

The historic importance of this cancellation can’t be overstated. The last time the ANA’s annual World’s Fair of Money was halted was due to World War II!

The ANA Show Panda
The history of Show Pandas goes back to the mid-1980s, with commemoratives minted to celebrate a variety of coin shows around the world. Since 2015, special ANA Show Panda Proofs have been struck each year to celebrate the annual World’s Fair of Money. These proofs feature new one-year-only designs celebrating that year’s host city. And every year since 1891, the World’s Fair of Money has been held in the continental United States. One-Year-Only Design
Each year’s Show Panda displays a one-year-only design celebrating that year’s ANA Show and its host city. For 2020, that means a reverse dedicated to the “City of Bridges,” Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Designed by famed Chinese coin designer Tong Fang and struck in China, the 2020 ANA Show Panda depicts a spectacular ensemble of different urban bridge scenes. Ms. Tong is the creator of the 2019 and upcoming 2021 China Panda reverse designs.

The obverse of the 2020 ANA Show Panda Proofs mimics the look of the China Mint’s 2004 Panda coin issue, as 2004 marked the last time the World’s Fair of Money was held in Pittsburgh. A mother panda walks alongside her cub as they exchange a loving look. The ANA Show Panda additionally displays the ANA seal, which comes colored in gold on the 2020 Silver and Platinum ANA Show Panda Proofs.

For the 2020 ANA Show, three different Show Panda Proofs were authorized. You can secure this special one-year-only design struck in 50 grams of 99.9% fine silver, one ounce of 99.9% pure gold or one ounce of 99.95% pure platinum.

Struck in Proof condition, each commemorative was created using specially treated dies and highly polished planchets. Striking each multiple times under incredible pressure, these 2020 ANA Show Panda Proofs display their designs in frosted relief with stunning mirrored fields.
