Why order this Silver 2021-W Proof American Eagle?

Fans of the world’s favorite bullion coin, the American Silver Eagle, are sure to love this proof counterpart. This coin has been around as long as the bullion piece, and 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the series. 2021 will be an exciting year for the American Silver Eagle as in mid-2021 the reverse, which has featured John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle design since the series’ debut in 1986, will transition to a new design! This 2021-W Proof Silver Eagle marks the final time the U.S. Mint will strike a Proof Silver Eagle at the West Point Mint with the original heraldic eagle reverse design. A Proof Silver Eagle bearing the new design will be released later in the year. Whether as a standalone piece or as an addition to an existing collection, this coin is sure to be prized for decades to come.

Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman

Obverse: Adolph Weinman’s obverse design shows Liberty carrying laurel and oak branches against a backdrop of the morning sun. The design comes from the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Obverse inscriptions include the figure’s name, “LIBERTY,” the national motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the date, “2021.” Adolph Weinman was one of the most consequential contributors to America’s numismatic rebirth in the early 1900s. His most famous coins were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime. He was also a sculptor, and many of his works are on display in different American cities.

Reverse: On the reverse is an adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States by John Mercanti. Under thirteen stars, which represent the original states, an eagle protects a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch. IThe image is encircled by rim inscriptions that read, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” John Mercanti spent more than three and a half decades with the US Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver. He has created more designs for coins and medals than anyone else in American history.
