Why add this World War II 75th Anniversary 2020-W Proof American Silver Eagle coin to your collection?
2020 marked the 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II. In honor of the milestone, the U.S. Mint issued a limited amount of American Silver Eagle proof coins with a specially designed "V75" privy mark. The mark's distinctive shape is borrowed from the outline of the Rainbow Pool at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Gorgeously Detailed Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: Liberty is personified as a young woman on the obverse, walking towards a new day's sun while enveloped in an American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2020" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," with the privy mark located above the motto. This design first appeared on the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, which was created by Adolph A. Weinman, a prolific American sculptor of the early 1900s.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows is centered on the reverse. The image represents the Type-1 design of the Silver Eagle, which was minted from the series' introduction in 1986 until mid-2021. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," "W" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The image is credited to John Mercanti, the 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver.
Virtually Flawless Proof 69
This End of World War II 75th Anniversary 2020-W Proof American Silver Eagle was judged to be in exceptional proof 69 condition by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). For the dramatic contrast between its frosted and mirrored finishes, the silver dollar was also awarded the Deep Cameo (DCAM) designation.
