Why buy this 2020-W Reverse Proof Jefferson Nickel + 2020 US Silver Proof Set?
In 2020, the US Mint releases the first ever Jefferson Nickels to bear the West Point Mint's "W" mint mark. The reverse proof here comes with the US Silver Proof Set. That set consists of one of each of the coins struck for circulation in 2020. The dime, quarters, and half dollar in that set were all struck from .999 fine silver. The set is perfect for collectors who appreciate the designs of circulated coinage.
Classic President Thomas Jefferson Design by Jamie Franki
The Jefferson Nickel features a portrait of President Thomas Jefferson by Jamie Franki. Shown at an angle, the President has his head turned to look into the eyes of the holder. Next to him are inscriptions of the word "LIBERTY," which is in cursive, the date, "2020," and the mint mark, "W." The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed along the rim. The reverse features President Jefferson's famous Virginia home, Monticello. Designed by Felix Schlag, the image is joined by the name of the home, "MONTICELLO." Other reverse inscriptions include the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," the coin's face value, "FIVE CENTS," and the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
The Silver Proof Set consists of 10 coins. Presidents Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Roosevelt, George Washington, and John F. Kennedy feature on the obverses of the penny, nickel, dime, quarters, and half dollar, respectively. Sacagawea appears with her son, Jean Baptiste, on her back on the dollar coin. The reverses of the penny, nickel, dime, and half dollar bear the Lincoln Memorial, Minticello, a torch flanked by two branches, and a modified Presidential Seal, respectively. The quarters bear images representing National Park of American Samoa, Weir Farm National Historic Site (Connecticut), Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (Virgin Islands), Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park (Vermont), and Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve (Kansas). On the reverse of the dollar is a design that honors 1945 Anti-Discrimination Law advocate Elizabeth Peratrovich.

The Nickel has a fascinating history that includes a four-year run of war nickels during some of America’s most challenging times (1942-1945). For all of its rich tradition, the coin has never featured the West Point Mint’s “W” mint mark… until now.
