Why order this Burnished 2020-W $50 Canada 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf?
The Royal Canadian Mint is offering collectors a true treat in 2020. For four decades, Gold Maple Leafs have been struck only at the Ottawa Mint. Now, for the first time, they are being struck at the Winnipeg Mint. Following the example of the US Mint, these coins will bear "W" mint marks, in this case for Winnipeg. (America's burnished silver coins bear a "W" for the West Point Mint.) Each coin is struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine gold on a specialized burnished planchet, which has a satin finish Just 400 of these coins are struck. Outside of Canada, these coins are available exclusively from ModernCoinMart!
Featuring Walter Ott's Stunning Maple Leaf Design
The coin's obverse bears Susanna Blunt's right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The effigy is unique among depictions of the monarch on coins from around the world in that it includes neither a crown nor a tiara. Shown wearing earrings and a necklace, the queen has her shoulders open to the holder. Her name, "ELIZABETH II," is inscribed along the rim at the top. Below the portrait are inscriptions of the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS," and date, "2020."
Walter Ott's iconic sugar maple leaf design dominates the reverse. The maple leaf is the national symbol of Canada. Ott brings it to life through extensive attention to detail. Arching over the image is the name of the issuing country, "CANADA." On the bottom half of the rim is an inscription of the coin's weight in English and French. It reads, "FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR." The coin's purity, "9999," is noted both to the left and to the right of the leaf.
