Struck at the Winnipeg Mint for the First Time in the History of the Maple Leaf Series
In 2019, the Royal Canadian Mint is changing up the issuance of their Maple Leaf bullion series by releasing the first Silver Maple Leafs ever struck at the Winnipeg branch of the RCM as opposed to the traditional facility, the Ottawa branch. In addition, these "W" Mint marked Maples will also boast a gorgeous Burnished finish. Only 10,000 of these first year of issue 2020-W Burnished Maples will be released!
A Canadian Icon
The obverse of the Maple Leaf features an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Susana Blunt. A portrayal which has been in use on Canadian coinage since 2004.
The reverse features a simply elegant Sugar Maple Leaf design as created by Walter Ott and which has been used in the series since its earliest days. Right below the leaf, to the left of the stem, the "W" Mint mark appears. This combined with a satiny burnished finish is very reminiscent of the United States Mint's Burnished American Eagle series which is struck at their West Point branch of the Mint and also boasts a "W" Mint mark.
