Why order this West Point 2020-W $1 American 1 oz Silver Eagle Proof?
Join in the celebration of the 35th edition of the Silver Eagle Series with this 2020-W Proof. The Proof Silver Eagle is as old as its bullion counterpart and offers collectors the chance to see the work of a pair of legends with a stunning proof finish. This coin bears the "W" mint mark of the West Point Mint, where it was struck on a 1 oz planchet of .999 fine silver.
Featuring Adolph Weinman's Patriotic Liberty Design
The obverse for the Silver Eagle Series comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar, which the US Mint struck from 1916-1947. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which indicates that she is a freed slave, and is draped in the American flag as she strides confidently to the left. She carries with her laurel and oak branches, the former representing civilian honors and the latter symbolizing military ones. Her right hand she extends forward above the morning sun, as though presenting the holder with the new day. Her name, "LIBERTY, the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020," are all inscribed on the obverse.
The reverse was modeled off of the Great Seal of the Untied States by John Mercanti. An eagle protects a union shield under thirteen stars. The stars represent America's original states. In its beak the eagle holds a ribbon that bears the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). The bird also clutches important symbols in its talons, arrows, which symbolize the country's willingness to defend its values, and an olive branch, which indicates a desire for peace. Rim inscriptions encircling this image read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
