Featuring the Classic Walking Liberty Design of Adolph Weinman
The coin's obverse bears Adolph Weinman's famous Walking Liberty design, which appeared on the half dollar from 1916-1947. Draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap on her head, Liberty strides confidently to the left side of this face. She carries laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, in her left arm. She extends her right hand in front of her above the morning sun, as though presenting the new day to the holder. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "2020."
John Mercanti's reverse design, which he modeled off of the Great Seal of the United States, consists of an eagle protecting a union shield under an arrangement of thirteen stars. The stars are symbols of the original states. The eagle spreads its wings to its side and holds a ribbon with the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. It also holds arrows, which represent America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. The name of the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," its weight, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and its face value, "ONE DOLLAR," encircle the image along the rim.
