The U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series has been annually issued since 1986, featuring imagery demonstrating the powerful national themes of liberty, strength and freedom.
A Magnificent Homage to Liberty
Obverse: Lady Liberty is centered the obverse draped in an American flag, as she strolls towards the rising sun while holding a bouquet of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "2020" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." This image is based upon the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, a notable sculptor of the early 1900s.
Reverse: The reverse heraldic eagle design is inspired by the Great Seal of the United States. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "W." John Mercanti, the U.S. Mint's 12th Chief Engraver, is credited with the patriotic design.
