The obverse bears a right-side portrait of President Andrew Jackson that was designed and sculpted by Moritz Furst. The President appears somber and confident. Arching over his effigy are his name and title, "ANDREW JACKSON PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES." Below his portrait is the date that he became President, "A.D. 1829."
Like other presidential silver medals, this one features John Reich's Peace and Friendship design. Reich both designed and sculpted the design, which includes its title worlds. Two hands clasp representing the relationship between the United States and Native Americans. A cuff with three stripes and buttons covers the wrist of the hand representing the United States, while the wrist of the hand representing Native Americans is bare. Above, a tomahawk is crossed with a peace pipe.
